Brazil: Sales of the main breweries in the West fell in 2023

In 2023 the three main breweries in the West recorded a combined drop of 27 million hl in beer sales, compared to 2022. According to data collected by the Brazilian association Guía da Cerveja, based on the financial results recently published by AB InBev, the Heineken Group and the Carlsberg Group, the total volume fell from 875.9 million hl to 850 million hl, which represents an annual decrease of 3.14 percent.

Among these companies, the Heineken Group suffered the largest loss in 2023, with a drop of 14.3 million hl, which represents a reduction of 4.7 percent, going from 257 million hl to 243 million hl compared to 2022. This decline in sales volume was seen in most regions of the world, but the largest drop was recorded in Asia Pacific, where 5 million hl (10.4 percent) were lost. However, in the United States, that is the main market of the Heineken Group, the losses were minimal (0.1 percent), going from 88.5 million hl to 88.4 million hl.
