Argentina: The 2026 Harvest Announces Lower Malbec Production

The Argentine Wine Cooperatives Association (Acovi) projects a 2026 harvest 18% smaller than last year's, with a 30% drop in Malbec production.

Acovi's estimate indicates a decrease of 2,724,000 quintals of grapes processed in 2025 compared to the 2,264,000 quintals projected for 2026, representing an overall decrease of 18%.

The most significant factor for the country's 2026 brand is the decline in Malbec production, projected to fall by 30% compared to the previous year.

The decline is even more pronounced in some wineries; for example, General Alvear announced a 65% reduction, the Northern region a 56% decrease, and San Rafael a 53% drop.

By grape type, the Acovi study shows that red grapes registered one of the steepest declines at -27%, while white grapes fell by 10%, and blends, which represent the largest volume, dropped by 9%.

Among the specific varieties, in addition to Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon also showed an 11% decrease.
