Traditional T-bar stoppers rely on chemical adhesives to bond the cork shank to the head, a method that can lead to detachment over time due to thermal shocks or environmental changes. Guala Closures’ new No Glue Systems address this issue through cutting-edge technologies such as co-injection moulding, ultrasonic welding, and mechanical interlock designs. These methods create a secure and durable bond between the cork and the head — completely without the use of glue.
The result is a closure system that ensures consistent quality and performance across all climates and production conditions, safeguarding product integrity, brand image, and the consumer experience.
“Our No Glue Systems represent a major step forward in closure technology,” said Piero Cavigliasso, Group Chief Product Development & Innovation Officer at Guala Closures. “By removing adhesives, we’re solving a long-standing technical challenge while offering a more sustainable, reliable, and premium solution that enhances the overall consumer experience.”
At the core of the new system is Sughera, a patented micro-agglomerated cork material developed by Labrenta — the luxury closures company acquired by Guala Closures in 2022. Sughera blends the natural look and feel of cork with the high technical performance of elastomeric polymers and contains up to 60% recycled cork by volume.
This material not only reduces environmental impact but also meets ESG and circular design principles, offering stability, controlled oxygen permeability, and a premium appearance ideal for high-end spirits.
