Italy: Sibeg installs new aseptic PET line with Sidel to boost efficiency and sustainability

Sibeg Srl, the official Coca-Cola bottler in Sicily, has partnered with Sidel to install a new aseptic PET line featuring the Aseptic Combi Predis and EvoFilm Stretch systems. The 18,000 bottles-per-hour line allows Sibeg to bring the production of sensitive beverages in-house, improving flexibility and reducing environmental impact.

Founded in 1960 and based in Catania, Sibeg operates eight production lines and supplies Coca-Cola, Monster Energy, and Acqua di Tepelene products to more than 24,000 outlets across Sicily. The company aims to reach zero emissions in Scope 1 and 2 by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2032.

The new line reduces water, energy, chemical, and plastic use while maintaining product safety and shelf life. It can handle up to ten beverage formats, including teas and energy drinks. Sidel’s EvoFilm Stretch technology replaces traditional shrink-wrapping, lowering plastic use by up to 60% and cutting energy consumption by as much as 90%. “This project helps us expand our product range and reduce transport-related emissions,” said Luca Busi, CEO of Sibeg.

Sibeg has also implemented Sidel’s Evo-ON Flex software to optimise bottle changeovers and minimise downtime. According to Gianluca Tornatore, Operations Director at Sibeg, “The collaboration with Sidel ensures efficiency and compliance with Coca-Cola’s safety standards.” The partnership marks an important step for Sibeg in combining operational efficiency with sustainable production in the Sicilian beverage market.
