Mexico is the country most affected by the new tariffs

The Mexican Department of Commerce stated that the 25% tax only applies to aluminum containers and not to liquids, considering that the Latin American country is the leading exporter of beer and empty cans to the United States.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reaffirmed that beer brewed from malt, in glasscontainers of no more than 4 liters each, is not subject to the new tariffs. On April 2, the U.S. Department of Commerce decided to increase tariffs to 25% onaluminum-derived products to include beer and empty aluminum cans, but it was notentirely clear which tariff would apply only to aluminum. According to data from the Mexican Statistics Office (INEGI) in 2024, US beer imports were €6.8 billion, withMexico as its main supplier (82.5%), followed by the Netherlands (9.4%), Ireland (2.9%), Germany (1.1%) and Canada (1%).
