Mexico: The Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT) expands the ‘Socially Responsible Agave’ certification to small producers

The Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT) announced that it has awarded the ‘Socially Responsible Agave’ (ARS) certification to 1,300 agave producers, who will now be able to sell their raw material directly to the industry.

The ARS certification has allowed traditional farmers to sell more than 158,000 tons of agave directly to tequila distilleries.

“ARS has been a great collaborative effort by all sectors that make up the Agave-Tequila production chain. Currently, there are more than 1,300 certified agave producers, and more than 158,000 tons of agave have been sent to tequila distilleries. A total of 148 companies have joined this program,” said CRT President Alexis Álvarez in a statement.

For the CRT, strategic planning of agave cultivation is a very important task in the tequila agro-industry, so it will continue to promote actions that strengthen the technical knowledge and decision-making of producers in the municipalities that make up the territory of the Tequila Denomination of Origin (DOT).
