Peru: The beverage industry boosts its growth with domestic rum

According to the new report by the National Society of Industries (SIN), by 2024, the sector has shown significant progress in the spirits industry, consolidating rum as the third most exported alcoholic beverage in the country, behind only pisco and beer.

Domestic consumption reached 14.6 million liters, reflecting an increase in Peruvian consumers' preference for this beverage made from local sugarcane and subjected to rigorous fermentation, distillation, and aging processes. The report indicates that Peruvian rum exports generated €1.4 million in revenue last year, representing 12 % of the country's total alcoholic beverage exports. Colombia tops the list of destinations, absorbing 72% of shipments, followed by the Netherlands (17 %), Ecuador (3 %), the United States (2.5 %), and Germany (1.3 %).

The Ron Cartavio brand currently holds more than 65% of the domestic market. It is made with high-quality sugarcane and aged in European and American oak barrels. It has won awards in multiple international competitions.
