USA: Coca-Cola confirms cane sugar-sweetened version

Following a public remark by Donald Trump, Coca-Cola confirms it will release a version of its flagship drink sweetened with cane sugar—marking a significant shift alongside its existing corn syrup formula.

Coca-Cola confirmed it will launch a new version of its iconic soft drink in the United States using cane sugar instead of corn syrup.

This decision comes after Donald Trump stated that Coca-Cola had agreed to change its traditional formula, using cane sugar instead of high-fructose corn syrup.

Although the company was unprepared for this announcement, it appreciated Trump's enthusiasm and defended the use of corn syrup in its products. However, a week after the announcement, it confirmed it will launch a version of Coca-Cola with cane sugar, which will coexist with high-fructose corn syrup.

James Quincey, Coca-Cola's global CEO, explained that the company has incorporated sugarcane into other beverages such as lemonades and teas, and that growing demand could stimulate greater local production: "If there is more demand, more hectares will be planted. We are confident that supply will not be an issue".
