Brazil: Universities from Minas Gerais and Germany join forces to launch a beer laboratory

The Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF) in Mata de Minas Gerais, in collaboration with the Technical University of Dresden (TU Dresden), announced the opening of a new technical laboratory dedicated to beer development.

Dedicated to teaching, research, and dissemination in the field of beverages, the new space focuses especially on beer production, but also includes the development of other beverages, such as protein, probiotic, and functional options. The TU Dresden team collaborates directly in the transfer of technical and scientific knowledge, contributing to the development of laboratory processes and beer analysis.

The facility, equipped with cutting-edge German technology, was conceived as an international laboratory that promotes the ongoing exchange of experiences and research between the two institutions.

The goal is to transform the laboratory into an innovation center that brings academia closer to the demands of the regional industry. According to Professor Rodrigo Stephani, of the UFJF Department of Chemistry, the creation of the facility responds to a long-standing demand from the institution.

"There was a clear need to offer technical support to local breweries, both in quality analysis and in the development of applied research. The expectation is that the laboratory will become a strategic support point to strengthen these alliances," the academic stated in a statement.
