Chile: Wine Production and Exports Decline

The International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) reported that global consumption reached its lowest level since 1961, with production at 226 million hectoliters, a 4.8 % decrease compared to the previous year, also the lowest since then.

In this context, Chilean wine production in 2024 was also 9.3 million hectoliters, a 16 % year-on-year decrease and a 21.4 % drop compared to the five-year average, the lowest level since 2010. The OIV itself described the scenario as a “market rebalancing” process, with a gap between production and consumption of 11.6 million hectoliters, 25% lower than the previous year, suggesting an adjustment on the supply side.

Chilean wine exports fell from € 1.17 billion in 2024 to € 1.13 billion in 2025, a 3.6 % decrease in value, with more pronounced declines in months such as February, August, November, and December.

According to data from the Ministry of Economy, shipments totaled 46 million cases, representing a 1.3 % decrease in volume and a 2.9 % decrease in value, while the average price was 23.6 pesos per case, 1.7% lower than the previous year.
