Canada: U.S. spirits imports decline

Alcohol sales have declined this year due to persistent economic uncertainty and the collapse of U.S. beer, wine, and spirits imports. As the global trade war between Canada and the United States rages on, provincial boycotts of American alcohol have begun to be reflected in sales figures.

According to data from the Ministry of Economy, sales of all types of alcohol in the second quarter, compared to the same period in 2024, showed a decrease of more than €90 million in six provinces.

"We are deeply concerned that U.S. tariffs on imported spirits from Canada and Mexico will significantly harm all three countries and lead to a cycle of retaliatory tariffs that negatively impacts our shared industry," reads the joint statement from the main North American spirits industry groups.
