Chile: Wine exports and inventories are increasing

According to the statistical report of the Prochile association, in charge of promoting the Chilean industry in international markets, a total of 65 million liters of wine were exported in May 2024, representing a total value of €115 million, an increase of 18 percent in volume and a decline of 5.4 percent in value compared to May last year.

In the period January to May 2024, an increase in exports of 18.7 percent in volume and 6.6 percent in value was also observed compared to the same period last year.

However, the latest report from the Agriculture and Livestock Service states that as of December 31, 2023, the volume of wine in the winery (excluding Pisco) had increased by 6.2 percent to 1,500 million liters.

When broken down by wine type, 1,330 million liters are wines with a controlled designation of origin (DOC), while 158 million liters are wines without DOC, including ordinary wines, and 13 million liters are wines from table grapes.

According to the SAG (Agricultural and Livestock Service) wine production report, total wine production in Chile reached 1,100 million liters in 2023, a decrease of 11.4 percent compared to the previous year. Production of wines with a controlled designation of origin (DOC) was 924 million liters, a decrease of 4.9 percent compared to the previous year.
