The move follows the recent sale of Eichbaum’s best-known brand Karamalz to Brauerei C. & A. Veltins, including all marketing, production, and distribution rights. The transaction, completed shortly before the filing, was reportedly intended to stabilize liquidity but came too late to prevent the insolvency.
Union representatives and the works council have expressed cautious optimism about preserving jobs and maintaining the site, calling for transparency and cooperation from management.
Eichbaum, one of Germany’s oldest private breweries, had faced criticism in recent years for continuing exports to Russia despite the war in Ukraine.
Production of Karamalz will now move to Veltins’ facilities in the Sauerland region. With annual sales of over 150,000 hectoliters, the brand ranks among Germany’s leading malt beverages.
