Mexico: Heineken plant in Meoqui uses less water

The Heineken brewery in Meoqui, Chihuahua—one of the Mexican states most affected by drought in recent years—has become one of the most water-efficient facilities in beer production, consuming 1.7 liters of water per liter of beer produced. This represents a 29% reduction compared to the global industry average of 2.4 liters.

According to Claudia de la Vega, Director of Corporate Affairs at Heineken Mexico, this efficiency is made possible by a new water treatment and reuse system implemented at the plant. The excess water is not discarded but reused internally for other processes, allowing the brewery to minimize water waste throughout its operations.
