In Canada, the Ministry of Agriculture confirms forecasts of a very good harvest this year, reaching nine million tons, with an exportable surplus of approximately three million tons. To date, 30% has been exported, with the main destinations being the United States, Mexico, and China.
In the Mercosur region (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay) and associated states (Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, and Panama), although experiencing lower demand, barley production remains stable.
While the 2025 planted area was smaller than in 2024, the good yields mean the volume will be similar to the previous year. There is some concern about DON levels in the grains as a consequence of the rains that occurred at the end of the growing season. In Argentina, the barley acreage for the 2025/26 season is estimated at 1,200,000 hectares, and the Ministry of Agriculture has observed excellent crop development, especially in the south of Buenos Aires province.
Argentine barley production for this year is expected to be approximately 5.4 million tons.
