The initiative, promoted by Alfonso Undurraga, president of the Vinos de Chile association, seeks to establish an institutional channel of connection between winegrowers and parliamentarians, avoiding conflicts with the Lobbying Law and formally promoting initiatives that strengthen one of the country's most important productive sectors.
One of the central points of this new Caucus is the discussion surrounding the reduction of the Alcohol Tax, which currently imposes an additional 20.5% on wine in the domestic market.
The measure, according to the association, would not only benefit wineries in terms of profitability and commercial development, but would also strengthen wine as an ambassador for the country's brand in international markets.
