Spain: Henkell Freixenet Becomes Sole Owner of Freixenet

Henkell Freixenet has acquired the remaining shares in Freixenet from the Ferrer family and José Luis Bonet, becoming the sole shareholder of the Spanish sparkling wine company. The transaction was completed on March 2, 2026. Financial details were not disclosed.

Henkell Freixenet and Freixenet had formed a strategic partnership in 2018, when Henkell & Co. Group acquired a 50 percent stake in Freixenet. The collaboration between the German group and the Ferrer and Bonet families subsequently developed into a joint international organization that today positions Henkell Freixenet as the world’s leading sparkling wine producer.

“With a shared understanding of tradition, quality and continuity, our partnership over the past eight years has grown into a strong team with a common vision for the brand and the company,” said Dr. Andreas Brokemper, CEO of Henkell Freixenet. He added that the group aims to further strengthen Freixenet’s international market position and continue developing the company sustainably.

Pedro Ferrer will remain connected to the company as Honorary President of Freixenet S.A., together with José Luis Bonet, and will continue representing the brand in selected institutions.

“The sale of our shares marks an emotional moment for us,” said Pedro Ferrer. “As two family-owned companies with shared values, we have found in Henkell Freixenet a trusted partner that will preserve our legacy while guiding the company into the future.”

José Luis Bonet Ferrer also emphasized that the transaction will provide continuity for Freixenet and support its further international expansion.

Following the sale, the Ferrer family and José Luis Bonet plan to increase their investment in Ferrer Wines, which is owned and managed by Pedro Ferrer, and continue their involvement in Spain’s wine industry.
